🎀 Breaking Barriers in Women’s Health

In December 2024, Oluwaseun Medical Centre launched a breast and cervical cancer awareness and screening program that reached 100 women in Egbe, Lagos. The initiative was more than a medical event—it was a movement to educate, empower, and save lives.

Many of the women who attended had never undergone a screening before. Some arrived with fear, others with curiosity. But by the end of the day, they left with knowledge, confidence, and in some cases, a critical diagnosis that could change their future.

“I learned things I had never heard before. It made me feel responsible and hopeful at the same time.”Bola, age 36

🧪 What the Program Offered

The screening event was designed to be thorough and supportive:

  • Clinical Breast Exams Performed by trained professionals with guidance on self-examination.

  • Pap Smears & Cervical Screenings Early detection of abnormalities with referrals for follow-up care.

  • Educational Talks Sessions on symptoms, risk factors, and prevention strategies.

  • Resource Distribution Pamphlets, contact information, and access to continued care.

The medical team ensured that every woman felt safe, respected, and informed. For three participants, the screening led to early diagnosis, a potentially life-saving outcome.

💬 Voices of Courage

“I came because my friend insisted. I’m so glad I did. I now understand how important it is to get checked.”Ngozi, 42

“The nurses were kind and explained everything. I feel stronger and more aware.”Amina, 29

🌍 Why It Matters

Breast and cervical cancer are among the leading causes of death for women in Nigeria. Lack of awareness and access to screening are major barriers. This initiative tackled both—bringing education and diagnostics directly to the community.
